Filter Media
Tennants Distribution Ltd is an authorised stockist of Active Filter Media (AFM ®) which is manufactured by Dryden Aqua Ltd in Scotland.
Active Filter Media is a direct replacement for filter sand used in any gravity flow or pressurised sand filter systems. Unlike sand, AFM® does not provide bacteria with a comfortable environment in which to grow and thrive resulting in much cleaner, safer filtered water and reduced on-going maintenance cost.
AFM® is manufactured from recycled glass (a sustainable raw material source) and is especially processed to have surface active properties which aid disinfection and adsorption. AFM® has no sharp edges or splinters and is the only filter media approved by the UK Drinking Water Inspectorate as safe to use under Regulation 31 of The Water Quality (Water Safety) Regulations 2001.
Three grades of AFM® are available and in a typical filter vessel AFM® 3 will form the bottom layer (approximately 10% of filter volume) with AFM® 2 layered next (approximately 20% of filter volume) and AFM® 1 as the top layer (approximately 70% of filter volume). Alternatively AFM® 3 can be left out and instead AFM® 2 forms the bottom layer (30% of filter volume) and AFM® 1 the top layer (70% of filter volume). Once loaded into the filter vessel AFM® improves with age and should not need replacing for the life of the vessel.
