Monoethylene Glycol (MEG)

Monoethylene glycol (MEG) is mainly used as a raw material in the manufacture of polyester fibers and for antifreeze formulations.

Typical Uses

  • Most commonly known for its use as antifreeze. When combined with water it acts as a coolant. 
  • Other uses include as an intermediate in hydraulic fluids, inks, paints and as raw material for polyesters and resins.

Properties

  • Monethylene glycol is a colourless, odourless, slightly viscous liquid. 
  • It has a high boiling point and a flash point of 111° C.
